What They Have to Say

Nick Buttillo, Class of 2018

TUSHRM helped me incredibly in my professional and personal life. My position now revolves around the creation of curriculum for career readiness workshops for the people who come to CareerLink. I teach a variety of different topics including resume development, interviewing skills, job searching skills, online professionalism, job retention skills, etc.

During my time with TUSHRM, I was able to serve as a Community Relations Director and serve different organizations in Philadelphia as well as the community surrounding Temple University. One of these service opportunities was with The Welcoming Center for New Pennsylvanians in Center City. There, SHRM members and I ran a “Strategies for Success” workshop for their walk-in participants every other Friday. This opportunity taught me quite a bit and enhanced my public speaking skills. I often reference the Welcoming Center and SHRM in many of my workshops now to stress the importance of volunteer work and joining professional organizations within your field as a part of career development. I believe I was able to get my position at CareerLink, and successful thus far, because of the experience with TUSHRM.

Manny Mavroleon, Class of 2018

I am very grateful for my SHRM experience at Temple University. When I switched majors from Accounting to Human Resources, SHRM helped me make a smooth transition through the amazing mentorship, leadership, and networking opportunities I provided. As an early member, I made sure to be heavily involved which led to my officer experience.

As my first job out of college, I am currently a Staffing Manager for a specialized recruiting firm called Ajilon. I knew from my undergrad and internship experience that I wanted to work within Recruiting, and I have SHRM and my HR professors to thank for helping me grow personally and professionally!

Chloe McCormack, Class of 2018

TUSHRM has been the cornerstone for building my career in Human Resources. This chapter has allowed me to not only develop a strong network of professionals but also make lasting friendships. I met many mentors and was supported by advisers that helped me obtain two internships and a full-time job before my graduation.

TUSHRM provided me with opportunities for leadership experience and exposure to high-level HR leaders in the Greater Philadelphia Area. These experiences served as great talking points in my interviews, that lead me to achieve my long-term goal: obtaining a full-time job before graduation. I could not imagine my college experience without the resources and people that TUSHRM provided me with.

Carolyn Brooks, Class of 2018
I am currently working for Saint-Gobain as a Human Resource Associate Business Partner as part of their 2-year Leadership Development Program. I honestly would not have gotten this job if it wasn’t for my involvement in SHRM. SHRM allowed me to grow my leadership skills tremendously by working with peers, professors, and businesses whom we partnered with. I have learned so much from our speakers that came in and most of all from our wonderful HR Professors.

In my current position at Saint-Gobain, I have had my hands in Learning & Development where I have administrated numerous training for our employees across North America, I am working on a global applicant tracking system, and am assisting Talent Acquisition in building a strong talent pipeline. I have much more to learn and be exposed to, but super excited for it!

One piece of advice I would give to you if you are a current student and looking for your first full-time position is to be open to new opportunities, be willing to learn, and be yourself!

Jasmine Beal, Class of 2012
TUSHRM helped me personally with my self-confidence. I was timid and reserved and going into the business world that can be very difficult when it comes to networking and making connections. TUSHRM also provided with the foundation to succeed in the world post-college and throughout my career. Being part of such an amazing organization has changed my life and career for the better.

TJ Cusack, Class of 2012
Temple SHRM, like many SPO’s at the Fox School, is a tremendous source of knowledge and opportunity.  It has a significant impact on the personal and professional development of students.  I am grateful for SHRM’s efforts and the many student avenues it enhances.
